Procter & Gamble Senior Executive Receives 2007 National IRI Medal
Senior VP Named for Oral Health, Fabric and Home Care R&D Innovations with Global Impact
Rancho Mirage, CA - For his role in improving oral health, laundry and home care for millions of consumers worldwide, Nabil Y. Sakkab, Ph.D., Senior Vice President, Corporate Research and Development, and a member of the Leadership Council of Procter & Gamble, has been awarded the national Industrial Research Institute (IRI) Medal. IRI represents senior executives from a wide range of industries whose member companies invest more than $70 billion annually in R&D worldwide. The honor will be presented May 8 during IRI's Annual Meeting, Rancho Mirage, California, May 6-9.

Established in 1946, the IRI Medal recognizes and honors leaders of technology for their outstanding accomplishments in technological innovation that contribute broadly to the development of industry and to the benefit of society.
Leading R&D innovation in three continents (North America, Europe, and Asia), Dr. Sakkab pioneered the creation of one of the top multinational research laboratories in China, with parallel accomplishments in business results and strengthened organizational capability in the United States, Europe, and Japan. In addition, his efforts dramatically increased the productivity of R&D by creating a new model of innovation now being re-applied by others worldwide.
“I am humbled by this great honor,” said Dr. Sakkab. “I hope that my efforts serve as a foundation for all industrial research scientists around the globe for generations to come.”
Dr. Sakkab assumed his current responsibilities in 2005, after a nine-year assignment as Senior VP, R&D Fabric & Home Care. Before that, he had an assignment in Kobe, Japan, managing P&G's Asia R&D effort, and laying the foundation for P&G's Chinese Technical Center in Beijing. This followed several P&G R&D assignments in Brussels and Cincinnati on a variety of businesses, including OTC Health Care and Household Products. Dr. Sakkab joined P&G in Cincinnati in 1974.
The author of several scientific and innovation management publications and a co-inventor on several patents, Dr. Sakkab served on the IRI Board from 2000 to 2004. Currently, he is a member of the Board of CEFIC, CEFIC Research & Science Board, Greenearth Company, and Advisory Professor Tsinghua University in Beijing.
A 1970 graduate of the American University of Beirut with a Bachelor's Degree in chemistry, Dr. Sakkab has a doctorate in Chemistry from the Illinois Institute of Technology (1973), and conducted post doctorate studies at Texas A&M.
