Co-Founder of Human Longevity Inc. & Executive Chairman of XPRIZE Foundation

Diamandis honored for revolutionary work in expanding the field of innovation

Orlando, FL (May 25, 2016)—The Industrial Research Institute (IRI) each year recognizes the pioneering work of prominent innovators whose technological advancements have contributed broadly to the development of industry and to the benefit of society by presenting them with the IRI Medal. A prestigious award presented annually, the IRI Medal recognizes those innovators who have changed the world.

For his revolutionary efforts to expand the field of innovation and technology development; his pioneering use of incentive-based competitions to commercialize space and to advance human health; his leadership in the study and application of transformative technologies; and, for his willingness to take on humanity’s greatest challenges, IRI recognized Peter H. Diamandis, Vice-Chairman and Co-Founder of Human Longevity Inc., and Founder and Executive Chairman of XPRIZE Foundation with the 2016 IRI Medal.

“The concept of innovation is about more than pushing boundaries, it is about pushing boundaries in a meaningful way to create something that is useful,” said Tom Kavassalis, IRI Board Chairman and Vice President of Strategy and Alliances at the Xerox Innovation Group. “Peter Diamandis consistently walks that boundary and identifies exactly where a little nudge is needed, and often in places few of us would think to look. The world needs innovators like him and it’s an honor to have the chance to formally recognize his achievements.”

Dr. Diamandis was recently named by Fortune Magazine as one of the “World’s 50 Greatest Leaders.” As Executive Chairman of the XPRIZE Foundation he leads the world in designing and operating large-scale incentive competitions.  At Human Longevity Inc., a genomics and cell therapy-based company, his work is in overseeing research focused on extending the healthy human lifespan. He is also the Co-Founder and Executive Chairman of Singularity University, a graduate-level Silicon Valley institution that studies exponentially growing technologies, their ability to transform industries and solve humanity’s grand challenges.

In the field of commercial space, Diamandis is Co-Founder/Co-Chairman of Planetary Resources, a company designing spacecraft to enable the detection and prospecting of asteroid for fuels and precious materials.  He is the also Co-Founder of Space Adventures and Zero Gravity Corporation and an author of two books.

The ceremony recognizing Dr. Diamandis was held yesterday at the Hilton Lake Buena Vista in Orlando, Florida, during IRI’s 2016 Annual Meeting.
