World Federation of Industrial Research Associations Established at IRI’s Diamond Jubilee

 

IRI Brings Together International Associations to Launch Historic Partnership

WASHINGTON (May 21, 2013) — Leaders from the world’s premier industrial research associations gathered today at the Industrial Research Institute’s (IRI) Diamond Jubilee to establish the World Federation of Industrial Research Associations (W-FIRA). The first organization of its type, W-FIRA’s mission is to increase and develop cooperation on a global scale to further the leadership of technological innovation throughout the world.

The founding members of the Federation joined together today at the Omni Shoreham Hotel in Washington to sign the official W-FIRA Articles of Establishment and formally commit to create and share innovation leadership solutions and best practices in innovation management developed through collaborative knowledge creation.

The founding members include:

• Australasian Industrial Research Group (AIRG)
• Associação National de Pesquisa e Desenvolvimento das Empresas Inovadoras  (ANPEI – National Association for Research and Development of Innovative Companies)
• European Industrial Research Management Association (EIRMA)
• Industrial Research Institute (IRI)
• Japanese Research Industries and Industrial Technology Association (JRIA)
• Korean Industrial Technology Association (KOITA)

“We are excited and hopeful as we gather today with our R&D colleagues from around the globe,” said Ed Bernstein, president of IRI. “We all share the goal of helping innovation leaders better their craft by enabling them to seek, share, learn, and create  the best practices. We look forward to collaborating with our international partners to advance our shared ability to lead in a global economy ”

IRI’s Diamond Jubilee, May 21-23, 2013, features thought-provoking sessions on innovation and competitiveness, opportunities for networking, and high-profile speakers including Clayton Christensen, Professor, Harvard Business School; Norman R. Augustine, former CEO, Lockheed Martin; and several other prominent figures in research and development and innovation. Robert A. McDonald, Chairman, President & CEO, Procter & Gamble, will deliver the opening keynote tomorrow.

Additional anniversary programs include the CTO Forum, Technology Tournament, IRI2038 Futures Project, and the Future Summit, taking place November 18-20, 2013 in San Jose, CA.
