How you do you structure your business development function?
Can someone provide me with a typical organization management structure/chart for a business development or revenue generation function within an R&D organization of more than 500 researchers? – USA Country Manager, large R&D firm

We have a commercial development function work alongside the R&D organization. Both directors reside on the team reporting into the general business manager and have a close working relationship between them. Conceptual ideas are evaluated jointly, and upon mutual agreement supported by market and economic vetting with stage gates, research and development goes forward such that an end product or application is simultaneously being prepared for market launch. Stage gating efforts also include other functional stakeholders prior to project commencement.
