- IRI Members Only
- Sunday October 16, 2016 – Wednesday October 19, 2016
- JW Marriott, Chicago, Illinois
This Summit is powered largely by findings from IRI's ground breaking, large scale research project on digitalization and its impact on R&D management. The Member Summit is designed for maximum networking and exchanging of best practices.
Final reports to be presented from IRI’s Digitalization and its Implications for R&D Management strategic research platform: a comprehensive guide for maximizing the benefits of digitalization on innovation while avoiding common pitfalls. As with all IRI research, this research has been done by practitioners, for practitioners, with a focus on tangible take-aways that can be implemented in the near term.
The following platform project teams report:
How will Big Data inform, enable and disrupt R&D activities? How can R&D management improve from Big Data? Who will be using Big Data and what will they need to know? What technologies and systems will R&D use to improve decision making and will they become part of the function? How will processes change as Big Data becomes pervasive? Gain answers to these questions based on the research team’s interviews with Big Data thought leaders and case studies on the use of Big Data in R&D.
Investigate the intersection of virtual collaboration and crowdsourcing to see how your organization can best take advantage of new tools to maximize your interactions and knowledge sharing. Dive deeper with the results of field experiments conducted by the research team, exploring two key concepts:
- technical experts, non-experts, and “crowds” look at problems differently; and
- how a problem is framed (to each audience) could change / hinder / accelerate finding a solution.
Virtual Experimentation & Simulation (VE&S)
What principles should an R&D organization use to determine when to leverage VE&S? What are the best practices and pitfalls in leveraging VE&S for companies? See how mature your organization is in its use of VE&S using the newly developed VE&S maturity matrix, based on interviews with key practitioners across a range of industries. Find out how you can advance your usage while avoiding mistakes other companies have made to maximize the opportunities available thanks to these new tools.
