Facebook’s Yann LeCun Selected as 2018 IRI Medal Recipient

June 6, 2018 (Atlanta GA) -- Yann LeCun, Facebook’s chief AI Scientist, was presented today with the 2018 IRI Medal, an award given annually by Innovation Research Interchange (IRI). Presented during the organization’s Annual Conference in Atlanta, Ga., this distinguished award recognizes and honors leaders of technology for their outstanding accomplishments in technological innovation that contribute broadly to the development of industry and to the benefit of society.

In accepting the Medal, LeCun has joined the ranks of many other innovative and accomplished leaders such as Joichi Ito, director of the MIT Media Lab and Harvard Law professor; Peter Diamandis, founder and chairman of the X Prize Foundation; and Vint Cerf, vice president and chief internet evangelist for Google, and widely known as one of the “fathers of the internet.”

“It is our distinct honor to recognize Yann LeCun, who has had a momentous impact in the field of artificial intelligence,” said Ed Bernstein, IRI president. “As a professor, researcher, and R&D manager with vast experience in predictive learning, intelligent data analysis, and more, LeCun’s work has made a powerful impact on AI research.”

The goal of the IRI Annual Conference is to bring together a wide variety of true thought provoking individuals from academia, government, and industry for three days of dialogue on innovation leadership.
