How Company Vision Leads Cultural Transformation

Keynote Explores Innovative Tools Developed to Assist in Vision-Building

Denver, CO (October 14, 2014)—Even in healthy work cultures, change is often necessary to sustain innovation. The problem is that change is always difficult. In her keynote address at the 2014 IRI Member Summit, Dr. Tamara Carleton, CEO and Founder of the Innovation Leadership Board LLC, spoke about the importance of setting a vision to drive change.

“We have been investigating innovation cultures and organizational transformation for many years,” said Ed Bernstein, IRI president. “The number one cause of headaches at companies looking to change their culture is the lack of an actionable guide on how to do that without first having a vision statement expressing the commitment of the company’s leadership.”

At the Innovation Leadership Board LLC, a global leader in the design of tools and processes that enable radical innovation, Dr. Carleton has helped consult for organizations going through difficult transitions. Much of her work builds on her pioneering study of innovation practices at the U.S. Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA) and the methodologies she helped develop atDeloitte Consulting LLP. As part of her keynote on how vision leads culture change, she explained the use of DARPA’s Hard Test in vision-building, allowing companies to understand the challenges they face and how to succeed.

“Navigating the minefield of culture change can be treacherous without first knowing where you want to go and what risks exist,” said Dan Abramowicz, IRI Chair and Executive Vice President of Technology and Regulatory Affairs at Crown Holdings, Inc. “Implementing foresight tools and strategic plans are one big way companies succeed at avoiding the major pitfalls.”
