With its promise to deliver access to an ‘on demand’ crowd of skilled professionals, the concept of liquid talent, or a liquid workforce, is gaining in popularity. The model, however, comes with a great deal of uncertainty in terms of organizations’ ability to reach the right talent, obtain high quality deliverables, and manage the liquid work process. In this talk I will highlight some of the capabilities that organizations need to develop as they consider a liquid workforce. Primarily, seamlessly integrating liquid deliverables into ongoing projects, managing the liquid talent, and engaging with intermediary organizations or technological platforms all pose new challenges and require specialized capabilities. Best practices insights from my work in crowdsourcing software development projects can help those who are just now venturing into the liquid model.
