The next industrial revolution—after mechanization, mass production, and digitization—will merge technology with physical products to create cyber-physical systems that connect people with the objects around them. One key frontier for that development will be the clothes we wear. Smart fabrics, or e-textiles, are already beginning to push wearable technology to the next level; clothing and soft furnishings will increasingly have capabilities and applications ranging from fun and frivolous to life-altering and life-saving.
