RTM - STEMM Wave Washes Up On Congress

Political analysts have tagged November’s midterm elections for the House of Representatives as both a blue wave, because the Democratic party gained 40 seats in the house, and a pink wave, owing to the election of 102 women— the most ever—to the body. Less noticed, but possibly just as influential, was a STEMM wave: the election of nine Democrats with backgrounds in science, technology, engineering, mathematics, and medicine who ran for election for the first  time. Combined with other elected members, new and old, who have backgrounds in science, engineering, and medicine, the input roughly doubles the number of legislators with science-related qualifications.
