I’ve been with Goodyear almost 40 years now. I joined as a researcher, after graduating from IIT Chicago. Goodyear was just developing a deep understanding of the physics of tires. I was one of the early hires to do basic work to understand the structure of tires from the physics point of view. All my career has been in R&D. I have worked in tire vehicle mechanics, in research in manufacturing processes and in materials science on reinforcements in tires. With this background, I was asked to work on a program we initiated with Sandia National Labs on tire modeling and simulation. After that, I was given the opportunity to lead our corporate research.
